The people who need to give flowers the most don't know it.

Should You Give Someone Important a Bouquet Today?
Of course I'm going to say yes. I own a flower shop and have a daughter in college!
With that confession out of the way, I should probably admit that I've shot myself in the foot. I can't exactly use this particular method of showing care with Amy anymore. Giving my wife flowers when I own a flower shop? I'm going to have to get a little more creative.
Seriously though, a guy walked into the shop today wanting to buy flowers for his wife. Evidently, he does this every single week.
I overheard the conversation from my desk in the back of the shop, and as I listened, I thought to myself, This is the smartest man on the planet.
Where did he get this mystical knowledge? Is this man a wizard?
He's so far ahead of me in understanding the beauty of this simple routine.
Five years ago, I was one of those guys who could have really benefited from this wisdom. I just didn't know it. Which, looking back, was probably right on par with my level of self-awareness at the time.
Think about the message this man sends his wife every single week. Without needing a special occasion, an apology, or a reason beyond the fact that he loves her, he brings her something beautiful.
You're important to me. I think about you. You matter. You're worthy of something beautiful.
That's a pretty powerful message to deliver on a random Tuesday.
Life has a way of slowly taking things away from us if we're not paying attention. Things we once had in abundance. Love, intentionality, the ability to prioritize what actually matters.
Somewhere along the way, our actions stop reflecting our intentions. And we're left with all these good intentions that nobody else can see or feel.
Life can get a little harsh. And so can we.
We're raising kids, making financial decisions that sometimes leave us with less peace. We get busy. We get tired. We stop investing in ourselves and in our most important relationships.
Sometimes we don't realize how far we've drifted until something is broken. Maybe even unrepairable.
And when we're unsure what to do at home, sometimes it's easier to just go to work.
I suspect our idealistic 25-year-old selves would kick our asses.
I've spent a lot of time in recent years looking for answers and asking myself a question that I probably should have been asking all along:
Where do I need to grow?
When I needed financial wisdom, I found Dave Ramsey.
When I needed practical help understanding relationships, I found John Delony and Brené Brown.
When I needed to learn how to take full responsibility for my actions, I found Jocko Willink.
When I needed spiritual health, I found Tim Keller.
But when I needed to get better at celebrating people, offering compliments, showing appreciation, and giving generously?
I found our customers.
What an unexpected gift they've been to me.
Every day, people walk into our little flower shop and show me what it looks like to be intentional about the people they love.
A husband who brings his wife flowers every week. Someone celebrating a friend's accomplishment. A person wanting to brighten an otherwise ordinary day. Someone trying to say something they can't quite find the words for.
I've spent a lot of time pondering the very important business question of our "why." Why do we do what we do? What are we really offering people when they walk through our doors?
And I think I've finally figured it out.
We're in the business of heartfelt connection.
Yes, we sell flowers. Beautiful ones, if I do say so myself.
But what we're really doing is helping people turn their good intentions into something another person can actually see, touch, and feel.
Because sometimes the distance between two people isn't a lack of love. It's a lack of expressing it.
And sometimes something as simple as a bouquet can help bridge that distance.
Flowers help us find our way back to ourselves and each other.
